What does it mean to be “exempt” and what are the most common FLSA exemptions?

To be exempt under the law that provides for the payment of overtime and minimum wages means that, that employee does not need to get paid minimum wages or overtime. Certain people are exempt. Typically, these are your salaried employees that have some type of management position or who work in a administrative position.
