What if my employer retaliates against me for filing a claim of discrimination?

Filing a claim of discrimination is considered to be a protected activity under the anti-discrimination laws. Therefore if your employer retaliates you for filing a claim of discrimination, you potentially may be able to sue them in court.

Retaliation can take many different forms, from termination, which is the most common and obvious one, but also demotion, reassignment to an unfavorable job position, harassment, and many others. If you have proof that your employer was aware of your protected activity and some evidence that that your termination or other form of retaliation is related to your protected activity, then you should consider filing a lawsuit against your employer.
