What is the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)?

The Family and Medical Leave Act, referred to as the FMLA is federal law that entitles employees to up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave to take care of themselves or a sick family member. The FMLA applies to any employer that has at least 50 or more employees, and it covers any employee who has been employed for at least a year.
